Algeria emerged champions at the All Africa Mixed Team Championships 2025, beating Mauritius 3-1 in the final and clinching the title for the first time.
In the final played on Thursday, Algeria’s strength in the paired events saw them through, with Koceila Mammeri winning both his matches. Mammeri and Linda Mazri earned the first point beating Lucas Douce/Chiara How Hong in mixed doubles, before Georges Julien Paul levelled the score for Mauritius.
Paul fought off a first-game deficit against Adel Hamek in men’s singles, winning 18-21 21-15 21-11. However, Halla Bouksani restored the lead for Algeria in women’s singles beating Elsa How Hong in straight games, before Koceila Mammeri/Youcef Sabri Medel saw Algeria through in men’s doubles with the winning point over Jean Bernard Bongout/Georges Julien Paul, 21-14 17-21 21-11.
Semifinalists Egypt and South Africa won bronze.
In the semifinals, Algeria had to overcome spirited resistance from Egypt, who won both of their singles through Adham Hatem Elgamal (men’s singles) and Nour Ahmed Youssri (women’s singles). With Koceila Mammeri winning both his doubles for Algeria (with Linda Mazri and Youcef Sabri Medel), it was finally up to the women’s doubles pair of Yasmina Chibah and Linda Mazri to see Algeria through, as the won the deciding point over Youssri/Doha Hany to take their team to the final.
In the other semifinal, Mauritius overcame South Africa 3-1; South Africa’s lone point coming from Olympian Johanita Scholtz, who beat Elsa How Hong 21-11 21-6 in women’s singles.
